The sexy Boulton Paul Balliol was conceived to meet a UK Air Ministry specification that was drawn up in 1946 for a three-seat turboprop trainer. The UK version equipped the RAF's Flying Schools until the mid 1950s, when the RAF decided to emphasise jet trainers. Some 30 Balliols were converted to Sea Balliols and served with No. 781 Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm.

The Short Seamew was a highly curious looking aircraft designed in 1951 by David Keith-Lucas of Shorts as a lightweight anti-submarine platform. This specification was in response to the alarming increase in capabilities of the Soviet submarine forces following World War II. However, poor performance coupled with shifting defense doctrine meant that it never reached service. Only 19 being built before the project was cancelled.

This aircraft was designed to address the shortcomings of the P-39 Airacobra. The P-63 was a fast airplane - its performance approaching that of the P-51 - but since the P-51 and P-47 were in full production, about 2,400 of the 3,303 P-63s produced were sent to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease act. France used some in Indo-China after the end of World War II. The U.S. used it as a test plane and, in a unique version, as live gunnery target training for bomber crews.

Ending a long line of Fairey Series III types, the Fairey IIIF first flew on March 19, 1926, and was produced in a number of variants for FAA and RAF use, and for export. Among the latter, ten Fairey IIIF Mk IIIBs went to Greece in 1931 (as did four ex-FAA Mk IIIMs) and provided the equipment of 11 Mira of the Royal Hellenic Air Force, based at Valtoudi, at the time of the Italian invasion of Greece in 1940 for naval recon. Any continuing use was ended by the German intervention in April 1941.
